April is National Car Care Month: Time to Spring for Vehicle Maintenance

April is National Car Care Month

April is National Car Care Month! Car owners should take advantage to check their vehicle’s maintenance needs, according to a new report. Investing in your cars wellbeing is important all year round, but especially in the spring when rain and snow can cause havoc on the roads. Car care can help prevent breakdowns and accidents, and save money in the long run. The report found that the three top car care failures were low washer fluid, low or dirty motor oil, and low, leaky or dirty coolant. Power steering, brake and transmission fluids were also checked, and had failure rates of 13 percent and below. When checking under the hood, nearly one in five vehicles (18 percent) needed a new air filter and 13 percent had the “check engine” light on. At least one belt was reported as unsatisfactory in 17 percent of the vehicles inspected, and 8 percent required at least one new hose. Car owners should take Car Care Month as an opportunity to get their vehicle’s maintenance up to date.

Here are 4 tips for your personal car care:

1. National Car Car Month is here which means it’s time to check your tires! This includes checking the tire pressure, tread wear and any cuts or damage. If you notice any significant wear or damage, it’s time to replace those tires! You should also have your wheels aligned at least once a year. Let’s keep our cars running smoothly this month!

2. The most important thing you can do for your car is to change the oil. I recommend that you change it every 5,000 – 7,000 miles. With the advent of modern lubricants, it’s not necessary to change it as often as we used to. But it’s still important to do it on a regular basis. Oil helps to lubricate the engine and keep it running smoothly. It also helps to cool the engine and keep it from overheating. So if you want your car to last a long time, make sure you change the oil on a regular basis. It’s one of the most important things you can do for your car.

3. Your brakes are one of the most important parts of your car. You need to make sure they’re in good working order so you can stop safely. You should have your brakes checked at every oil change. This will help to ensure that they’re always in good condition. Your brake’s rotors, linings, and drums should be inspected along with every oil change.

4. Check fluids There are a slew of various fluids that need to be checked when you bring your car in for servicing. Make sure your brake, transmission, power steering, coolant and windshield washer fluids are all checked and refilled where necessary.
