Drawing on decades of leadership in high-stakes environments, John partners with individuals and organizations to identify exposures, simplify complex coverage decisions, and align insurance solutions with real-world risks. His approach is built on clarity, accountability, and guidance, especially for clients who value preparedness and trusted counsel.
Before joining Hotaling, John completed 32 years of honorable service in law enforcement, following 10 years in the United States Marine Corps. His experiences as a Marine shaped his discipline, decisiveness, and commitment to others. He is a retired NYPD Detective who served in the Intelligence Division and Gang Intelligence Unit. He was a lead First Responder on 9/11 and in the challenging days that followed. Answering the call to support national security after the attacks, John joined the Federal Air Marshals Service, later serving as a Criminal Investigator with the U.S. Attorney’s Office (Southern District of New York) leading long-term RICO investigations. He went on to the Department of Homeland Security, Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) in Miami, as Resident Agent in Charge, working joint efforts with partners including the FBI JTTF and HSI while conducting transnational narcotics-smuggling investigations.
In parallel with his public service, John has been a national volunteer leader for the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) since 2004, serving on the National Board in roles including Director of Administration, National Vice President for Member Services, and Vice President at Large. In 2008, he was appointed Vice President of the FLEOA Foundation, where he serves as chief fundraiser, leading initiatives that have generated more than $1 million in contributions and sustainable annual sponsorships, including the Boston Bruins’ annual “BFit” Challenge, which he helped launch. He has also spearheaded national fundraising for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) Memorial and Museum campaigns, including a custom-built Corvette raffle that raised $160,000, along with major appreciation and benefit events involving professional sports partners and notable athlete volunteers.
